Literacy Learning & Assessment Center of Connecticut Founder Sheryl 
Knapp, M.Ed., A/AOGPE, frequently writes and presents on topics relating to literacy and learning disabilities.  She completed hundreds of classroom and practicum hours under the supervision of a Fellow of the Academy of Orton-Gillingham Practitioners (AOGPE), earning her Associate level Certification with the Academy in 2010.

The Orton-Gillingham methodology is a systematic, research-based, multisensory approach to literacy instruction which has been proven to be effective for struggling readers with dyslexia and other learning disabilities. Sheryl currently serves as the President of the Dyslexia Society of Connecticut (formerly known as the Connecticut Branch of the International Dyslexia Association, or CONNBIDA), and was a long-time Board member for the Connecticut Down Syndrome Congress.  She is also a contributing writer and editor for Smart Kids with Learning Disabilities.

A former instructor of a graduate-level statistics course at New York University’s Stern School of Business, Sheryl has the statistical aptitude to evaluate and interpret neuropsychological evaluations and other education reports.  She has also worked extensively as a substitute general education and special education teacher, and earned a(n):

  • B.A. in Cognitive Science & Psychology (Wesleyan University);
  • M.B.A. in Decision Sciences  (The Wharton School, University of Pennsylvania); and
  • M.Ed. in Curriculum & Instruction, with a specialization in Literacy (Post University).
